RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT GUESTLING BRADSHAW CEP SCHOOL

INTENT: AIMS AND PURPOSE
At Guestling Bradshaw Primary School, we believe that it is important for all our pupils to learn from and about religion, so they can understand the world around them.
The Ofsted Research Review (May 2021) states, ‘RE in Primary and Secondary schools enables pupils to take their place within a diverse, multi religious, multi secular society.’
The aim of our RE in school is to ensure pupils can make sense of a range of religious and non - religious beliefs, understand the impact and significance of religious and non - religious beliefs and to make connections between religious and non – religious beliefs, concepts, practices and ideas studied.
We follow the East Sussex Agreed Syllabus (2022-2027) – Faith and Belief in the 21st Century and predominantly use RE Today and Understanding Christianity units of work.
The Agreed Syllabus for RE in East Sussex, ‘Faith and Belief in the 21st Century,’ (2022 – 27) directly links to our aims at Guestling Bradshaw, when it says,
‘The principal aim of religious education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.’
Our curriculum is designed to encourage creativity, imagination, enquiry, debate, discussion and independence. Our curriculum allows our pupils to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhances their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

- To prepare pupils for their opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life, and to help them come to terms with difficult or painful situations they encounter.
IMPLEMENTATION: TEACHING AND LEARNING OF R.E
- Our R.E curriculum has been carefully planned to ensure progression and consolidation of knowledge and understanding.
- Our curriculum follows the Faith and Belief in the 21st Century- agreed Syllabus for RE in East Susses 2022-2027and is supported by resources from Natre- RE Todayand Understanding Christianity,
- It is carefully planned and sequenced to build on learning that has gone before and to ensure that pupils develop depth of knowledge and understanding of Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hinduism.
- This is enriched further through a themed multi-faith unit, drawing on the learning throughout the year. E.g. What makes some places sacred to believers?
- Re lessons are taught weekly and have a strong element of review to support all children with their knowledge and understanding.
- Enquiry based questions engaged and challenge children.
- Children from Year 1 to year 6 have their own RE learning Book.
