RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT GUESTLING BRADSHAW CEP SCHOOL
INTENT: AIMS AND PURPOSE
We believe that:
- Religious Education enables children to develop religious understanding by exploring what religion means in the lives both of people in the community in which they live and the wider world.
- All children have the right to have the door labelled “religion” opened for them. This is an important part of their education.
We aim to lay the foundation of religious understanding so that children leave school wanting to find out more about religion and what it can mean in their lives.
At Guestling we aspire:
- To encourage a sense of awe and wonder
- To develop an understanding of right and wrong
- To encourage sharing and giving
- To enable children to empathise with others
- To experience being part of a group and the school community.
- To learn to value and respect themselves and others
- To learn about Christianity and other faiths through an enquiry approach, often sharing other cultures and traditions, and promoting tolerance and understanding.
- To prepare pupils for their opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life, and to help them come to terms with difficult or painful situations they encounter.
IMPLEMENTATION: TEACHING AND LEARNING OF R.E
- Our R.E curriculum has been carefully planned to ensure progression and consolidation of knowledge and understanding.
- Our curriculum follows the Faith and Belief in the 21st Century- agreed Syllabus for RE in East Susses 2022-2027and is supported by resources from Natre- RE Todayand Understanding Christianity,
- It is carefully planned and sequenced to build on learning that has gone before and to ensure that pupils develop depth of knowledge and understanding of Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hinduism.
- This is enriched further through a themed multi-faith unit, drawing on the learning throughout the year. E.g. What makes some places sacred to believers?
- Re lessons are taught weekly and have a strong element of review to support all children with their knowledge and understanding.
- Enquiry based questions engaged and challenge children.
