Defining Spirituality

The school vision “Growing together. Learning forever. Living life to the full” is theologically rooted in Jesus’ purpose and mission “I have come that they may have life and live it to the full.” John 10:10

We believe that Spiritual development is a fundamental aspect of children's personal progress that exists beyond faith or religious affiliation.  We work to enable children to develop holistically in order that they become happy, fulfilled, spiritually aware, and socially and emotionally engaged.

Our definition of Spirituality is an ongoing, reflective journey. It is something that teaches us about questioning, understanding and relationships: relationships with ourselves, others, the world and beyond. It is being inspired by the wonder of life in all its fullness.

We know that expressing and putting into words what spirituality actually means can be difficult, as it is a uniquely personal experience and differs from person to person and can change throughout a lifetime. For many, it is a feeling of being connected to others, and the world and the idea that there is something else.

We believe that we can explore Spirituality by educating the whole child, providing full, life experiences to meet this desire which include being creative and providing opportunities to be still and reflect.

Spirituality in Guestling Bradshaw

At Guestling Bradshaw, we view spiritual growth as becoming more and more aware of one’s natural, innate spirituality. These opportunities happen throughout each and every day as children deal with delight, disappointment and the chance to be present with themselves.

To make conversations about spirituality more accessible to every member of our school community, Guestling Bradshaw Primary School has chosen to use a simple framework and a common language based on:

LOOKING IN: Developing an awareness of their own feelings and being able to reflect on their own beliefs, values, hopes, dreams, feelings, ideas and aspirations. Learn from our mistakes and be proud of what we have achieved.

LOOKING OUT: Developing the ability to reflect on and appreciate the natural world, the environment and human achievement; to show empathy and understanding in relation to injustice and inequality. To make a difference- putting our values into actions.

LOOKING UP: Developing and nurturing a sense of awe and wonder through reflecting on and studying science, nature, art and music, providing opportunities for prayer and reflection, encountering and experiencing God.
