Welcome to Year 4
Welcome back. Our topic this term is Freedom and Captivity.
PE will be taught on Friday afternoons this term. Please make sure that your child has the appropriate kit in school.
Forest School is on a Tuesday afternoon. Children must come to school in their outdoor clothing in the morning. Wellies can be brought in in a carrier bag.
Homework is given out every Friday and needs to be completed by the following Wednesday. This will be sent out on Class Dojo every Friday afternoon.
For now, most communication will be done through the Class Dojo. Please ensure that you have signed up to this. If you need to talk to me at all, message me on there and we can arrange a time for you to come in!

English
In our English this term, we will be studying two key texts, Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold and Varmints by Helen Ward and Marc Craste. Our main written outcomes for the term will be a detailed explanation and a play script.
We will have a 30-minute reading session each day, focusing on book talk, whole class guided reading and independent responses.
Maths
This term in maths, we will be thinking about place value and number. Some of this will involve recapping content from Year 3 but we will also be looking at lots of new content too, for example rounding and numbers in the thousands.
Science
In Science, we will be thinking about living things and their habitats. We will learn how to classify different animal types and how we can help to look after the habitats around us. We will be going to Mallydams for links with this, this term.
Geography
Our Geography topic is ‘All Around the World’. We will be looking at map reading skills as well as the different climates and time zones around the world and how these differ to ours.
Art
The artist Georges Seurat and the concept of pointillism will inspire our Art this term. The children will use paints to recreate some of his artwork.
Computing
In our Computing sessions, we will be using Microsoft Word and how to make effective posters on this.
RE
We are following an enquiry-based approach in our RE, focusing on the overarching question of: How does believing Jesus is their saviour, inspire Christians to save and serve one another?
PSHE
Our PSHE will be focusing on looking after our emotional, physical and mental health. This will really help us in our transition back to school.
French
We are thinking about where we live and the areas around us in French.
SEN Provision
The SEN provision map below shows the various interventions children may get in our class. Children's names have been removed to protect privacy.
