WELCOME TO YEAR 5

SEN PROVISION

The SEN provision map above shows the various interventions children may get in our class. Children's names have been removed to protect privacy.

ENGLISH

Over the term we will recap the features of text types such as recounts, narrative, newspaper reports and poetry through our class books as a stimulus for our writing.

Books: Ice Trap, Shackleton’s adventure and research books.

MATHS

In our maths learning we will look at written methods for Multiplication and division. We will look at number problems before moving onto real life problems where children will apply their understanding.
 

We will continue with weekly mental maths tests.

SCIENCE

We will be looking at forces and how these affect our lives. Our Science day will be every Friday.  

GEOGRAPHY

We will be developing our map skills to identify the Antarctic and Shackleton’s journey.
 

We will also look at environmental issues concerning the Antarctic today.

ART/DT

We will be creating paintings of sea and ice using illustrations as inspiration.

We will also create a series of monochrome images of scenes from Shackleton’s adventure.

RE

Our theme this term is forgiveness.

We will look at different bible stories and figures to explore this idea.  

SMSC

Friendship will be an ongoing theme. We will look at how to be a good friend and resolving issues.

This term has anti-bullying week.

COMPUTING

We will continue to look at E-safety issues. We will look at creating and publishing documents.

FRENCH

We will be learning simple greetings and how to ask and respond to simple questions.

MUSIC

We will continue to rehearse the songs for our Big Sing performance at the White Rock Theatre.
